Kristan Payne and her husband, Doug, are the proud parents of Nathaniel and Gabriel. In August of 2001, Gabriel was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Since that time Kristan has become active in Fayette County, Ohio's Help me Grow Program, Children Offered Resources Early and Fayette County Family and Children First Council.

Since Gabriel was referred to Early Intervention by his physician and began receiving services, he has prospered and become a much happier and socially active little boy. Seeing this wonderful change has prompted Kristan to work towards raising the public awareness about Early Intervention and the services available for young children. She is also actively seeking and relaying information regarding the education system, parent involvement and therapy options.

Kristan diverse background makes all this possible. She has a bachelor's degree in education and was certified to teach middle school math and science. She also has a BA and MA in anthropology. Kristan taught students with Learning Disabilities as a long term substitute teacher and worked for three years in an immunology research laboratory. Add to that the fact that her wonderfully supportive parents have worked their entire lives in Special Education in Ohio. Anytime Kristan need help or is lost she can turn to her parents for guidance. She wishes all parents had this same level of support.
