A good question for action learning is more like a puzzle in that it doesn’t have an easy answer. A good question to explore with an action learning group is a question you care deeply about – one you are willing to spend some time on, on you are willing to live inside of for a while. A good question for action learning is one you are willing to take apart and put back together in a different shapes and forms. A good question is one that generates more questions. A good question creates movement.

Here’s a description of good questions from the world café

A good question should invite inquiry and discovery vs. advocacy and advantage.

Well crafted questions attract energy and focus our attention.

You’ll know you have a good question when it continues to surface new ideas and possibilities.

Here are some of the questions that have been explored in my action learning groups.

1) How can I help build community for my daughter?
2) What is community?
3) How can I step outside my role to think of myself as a connector?
4) Who’s going to be there for Matt when I’m gone?
5) How can I tell Jim’s story in an inspiring and encouraging way?
6) How can I work with Scott’s staff to make things better?
7) What is Nick going to do after High school?
8) How will I maintain my energy while supporting my daughter’s dreams?
